Recently I was on my home for lunch when I felt the desire to have some pototo chips with my lunch. I mean how can anyone eat a tuna fish sandwich without some potato chips. So the only store on I was going to pass on this particular route home was my local KMart so I stopped in to get some nice salty kettle chips. As I am likely to do though, when I see something different, I sent out a picture and Tweet about some BBQ’d chips I saw. It didn’t take long before I heard back from other Twitter followers that I should give them a try.
Really? I should try BBQ’d Baby Back Rib or Kansas City Steak flavored chips. I’ve been taken in far to many times by food items that claim to taste like something BBQ’d to just accept those types of claims. I deserve to be skeptical. But ultimately after a week of considering it I decided the best thing would be to buy the chips and give them a try. I mean after all what’s the worst that could happen? If I hated them I’d probably get a great blog post out of it.
Mrs. Grail told me she was going to KMart yesterday afternoon so I asked her pick me up a bag of Herr’s Baby Back Rib and a bag of Kansas City Prime Steak flavored chips while she was there. I think she was as skeptical as I was. But she brought them home.
I have to admit that I opened the bags and tasted them with a certain amount of hesitation. I mean it’s just not possible that these chips tasted any different than any other BBQ flavored chips.
But I was wrong. The Baby Back Rib chips tasted exactly like ribs. I couldn’t believe it. Potato chips that tasted like pork. And the Kansas City Prime Steak flavored chips tasted just like steak. Just how weird is that? I couldn’t believe it.
I’m not really sure just how much I would eat these. I don’t normally just sit down and eat potato chips, it’s usually with a sandwich or something like that. And I’m not quite sure what kind of sandwich would go with these. I mean baby back ribs or steak don’t go well with tuna or egg salad sandwiches.
What this means though is that my creative juices are starting to work. What recipe can I come up with that uses potato chips that taste like pork or beef? There’s got to be something. Only time will tell what I might come up with so stay tuned.
