I recently received an email from McCormick asking if I’d like to give some of their new rubs and seasonings a try. Since McCormick is one of my favorite brands of seasoning I jumped at the chance. One of the rubs I got was the Tennessee Smokehouse BBQ Rub. One of the reasons I asked for this particular one is because I’d never heard of Tennessee as a particular style of BBQ/Flavor. I know lots of flavors are regional so this was a chance to try something new.
The Tennessee Smokehouse BBQ Rub is a mixture of some standard BBQ spices. Lots of paprika, onion, garlic, pepper and mustard is combined with brown sugar to give the rub a very traditional southern BBQ flavor.
According to McCormick the rub is best of chicken. After giving it a try I’m going to agree with them. The spices and seasonings gave the chicken a really good flavor. The brown sugar and paprika helped with creating a nice texture/crunch to the chicken skin.
Use a whole package of Tennessee Smokehouse BBQ Rub for a whole chicken. I also made sure I got a good layer of rub under the skin, directly on the meat. This helped to get flavor throughout the entire bird. The flavor was so good there wasn’t a need for extras like BBQ sauce.
McCormick Grill Mates Tennessee Smokehouse BBQ Rub is available at most major grocery store chains. This blog post is the result of a partnership between The BBQ Grail Media Group and McCormick Grill Mates. I received the products for free from McCormick in exchange for writing about them if I like the product.
